Phoenix House has helped thousands of people overcome substance and alcohol abuse in order to lead healthy, productive, and rewarding lives. Since 1967, we have been committed to supporting individuals and families by providing a wide range of services, from prevention, early intervention, and treatment to continuing care and recovery support. Phoenix House was born when a group of six people who wanted to rise above addiction came together.
After supporting each other through treatment, they moved into a brownstone on Manhattan’s West Side and lived as a community, encouraging and helping each other to stay sober. With the dedication and expertise of Dr. Mitchell S. Rosenthal, Phoenix House grew into the model for a citywide treatment network. In 1972, Phoenix House became an independent nonprofit organization and has since grown to have locations across the country. It’s considered the nation’s leading nonprofit provider of alcohol and drug addiction treatment and prevention services, caring for over 10,000 people in need across 10 states each year.
In the coming months, additional Phoenix Life Centers will be established in New York and throughout the country.
